1)You’re here to live for YOU, not others.
The only way to discover new things about yourself is to break into the unknown- and what a better way to do this than by travelling solo. First, a new city then, a new country until you find yourself on the other side of the world. You’ll be surprised to realise how much harder it is to go back home than it is to leave.
Have you ever thought of skydiving? Ziplining? Diving with the sea’s best? How about skiing? Or seeing the seven wonders in person? How about volunteering with rescued elephants? Travelling is for everyone. From the adventurous to those who would rather chill at a live bar, a blunt in hand in the charming northern town of Pai. There’s something for you, wherever you go.
2)You’ll NEVER be the same.
Every traveller will tell you this much. You’ll meet new people, try new foods -from crocodile all the way to mango sticky rice in Bangkok and Cao Lau in the streets of Hoi An. You’ll have exhilarating experiences and make unforgettable memories. From hiking in the mountains of Vietnam to spending nights in the Sahara desert during a sandstorm- you’ll never be bored!
3)You will learn how to operate from a place of GRATITUDE
Some become devoted to the life of travelling and others return home with newfound appreciation for everything and everyone around them. From exploring the effects of Cambodia’s recent, tragic history, I learned the significance of educating myself about the history of the countries I visit. The importance of keeping the stories of those affected alive, so that we can be on the right side if history tries to repeat itself.
From appreciating mother nature as you ride through the islands of Thailand, to understanding the privileges you have back home, you’ll truly never look at life the same ever again.
4) You’ll fall in LOVE
You’ll make unfathomably deep connections with complete strangers- some who you’ll never see again, forever living in your memory and others, who will become lifetime friends. You’ll fall in love. With yourself. With others, With life.
So why solo and not with others? Of course, travelling with people is amazing. It’s nice to have someone to share experiences and memories with. But solo? You’re all about YOU. It pushes you to put yourself out there. You learn so much about yourself. What you like, what you don’t like, how you navigate challenges. It encourages you to make the first step with others, to interact and bond with locals and travellers- a desire that may not be as strong when travelling with a partner, friends, or family.
Travelling solo, whether it’s for a week, 6 months or a year will change the rest of your life. All you have to do? Throw yourself in completely, embrace the unknown. Will it always be good? No. You might lose your passport or your luggage or…both. You might meet some unkind people. You might miss a few flights. But it’s all okay. It will ALWAYS be okay. You will ALWAYS be okay. Out of the 10 mishaps you might encounter, you’ll have 100 positive things to show. So, say yes to new things. Say yes to yourself. Say yes to happiness.
Affirmation: I am worthy of beautiful and unforgettable experiences. Wherever I choose to go, I will create a peaceful, a joyful and a loving world.
