I love travelling. I always have and the airport… it’s one of my favourite places in the whole world.
I think it’s the excitement I always feel when I’m there. Perhaps it’s my eagerness to explore the country I’m visiting. I love the endless possibilities that simmer there. What’s the chance that you’ll bump into a lifelong friend or the chance that you’ll end up sat next to the love of your life on the plane? What are the odds of you running into someone you thought you’d never see again? The possibilities are truly endless . I love that about the airport- this one place where so many different lives collide. Men, women and children of different races, ethnicities, religions, and cultures- all in one place. You don’t get that a lot, at least not as concentrated.
I’m in love with the unknown. In love with the ‘what if’. I love watching people be human, be themselves. I love watching people and creating stories, playing matchmaker in my mind for 2 strangers who may never be in the same place, at the same time ever again. I love being present.
I feel I’ve mastered the art of noticing. It all happens when you allow yourself to be present. When you stop worrying about the past. When you stop worrying about the future, and what could be and simply just be. Allowing yourself to be in the moment, to take things as they are, not as they were or as you’d like them to be. Just as they are. That’s when you notice everything, as if they’re brand new – the sound of joy, the sound of humming engines in busy streets, the whistle of the wind, the silence of a dark night, the bliss from a stranger’s kindness.
You notice the beauty in the buildings you walk past every day, how the sky shimmers with a grace that can never be captured by a lens. You feel at peace as the world rushes by you because you know there’s no need to hurry. There may not always be a tomorrow so we must enjoy today. There’s no need to hurry things along, take your time.
As wisely said by Kung fu Panda’s Master Oogway ‘You are too concerned about what was and what will be. There is a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.’ Being present frees you. So much. You’re not bound by past experiences or future outcomes, you’re only concern is the here and now.
Affirmation: I surrender myself to the universe. I accept things as they are now, not as they were or as they wish them to be. Everything that is meant for me will always be mine, it will never pass me. I therefore allow myself to be present, to exist, to live. To simply be.
